KUALA LUMPUR: Former Malaysia Automotive Robotics and loT Institute (MARii) chief executive officer Datuk Madani Sahari has been charged again for a bribery-related case.
The 56-year-old former officer today pleaded not guilty to one count of soliciting a RM5 million bribe from P. Kuhan Arunasalam as an incentive to help the latter to get an employees placement and training programme worth RM24 million from A2Z Technology Sdn Bhd to MARi.
He claimed trial to the charge before Sessions Court judge Suzanna Hussain this morning.
He was accused of committing the offence at A2Z Technology Sdn Bhd's office located in Publika at Solaris Dutamas here, between 11am and 3pm in the month of May two years ago.
His charge today was framed under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009 and punishable under Section 24 of the same Act which carries a maximum 20 years imprisonment and a fine of not less than five times the amount of bribe received or RM10,000, whichever is higher, upon conviction.
Previously, Madani was charged at the Shah Alam Sessions Court for receiving RM5 million in bribe from Kenny Khow Chuan Wah, who had acted on Kuhan's instruction.
Today, deputy public prosecutor Law Chin How prosecuted while lawyer Rahmat Hazlan represents the accused.
The court then ordered the same amount of the bail imposed on the accused for the charge he's currently facing in Shah Alam to be tied to his case today.
She also fixed June 9 for mention.
