KUALA LUMPUR: The Malaysian Corruption Watch (MCW) said the issue of selective investigation and prosecution would not arise if one was not involved in corruption and abuse of power.

Its president Jais Abdul Karim said that the court would only make a decision after hearing the arguments from the defence and prosecution teams with the evidence collected by the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC).

"Anyone who is investigated and accused must have good reasons because the MACC has conducted a comprehensive, detailed and professional investigation.

"Praise should be given to the MACC for carrying out the trust and duty bravely without discrimination whether the individual has a high rank or position in a particular party or society," he said in a statement today.

Jais said that the investigation and prosecution of political party leaders must be given serious attention and be made a lesson to other political leaders.

He stressed that Malaysia's political culture was already too polluted with various moral problems, integrity, corruption, misuse of power and nepotism.

"Corruption is still wrong and all parties should respect the court's decision if someone is found guilty and receives his sentence," he added.

Former Prime Minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin is expected to be charged tomorrow in relation to the Jana Wibawa programme.
