LABUAN: An officer and two enforcement personnel were detained by Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) here on suspicion of accepting a bribe worth about RM4,000.
The graft was as an inducement not to take action against a narcotics offence suspect.
According to sources, the trio were apprehended around 3pm today at the MACC Labuan office while giving their statements.
It is reported that the officer and personnel, who were stationed in the narcotics branch, were believed to have received the bribe money through a cash deposit machine.
The remaining amount was received through several online banking transactions.
"These transactions took place between September 2022 and March 2023."
Labuan MACC director Datu Robbyie Shym Datu Pindatun confirmed the arrests when contacted. The case is being investigated under Section 17(a) of the MACC Act 2009.
The suspects are expected to be taken to the magistrate's court here tomorrow to be remanded.
